Futuristic Fashion

While we’re still waiting on the self drying bomber jackets or the self lacing Nike Air Force Ones that Marty promised in Back to the Future II, the future of fashion has landed. Well that’s if the runways of Autumn/Winter 2018 are anything to go by. From metallic trousers, to see through plastic bags, the future of fashion has arrived. We will have you looking like an extra from Men in Black in no time.

It seemed that shiny suits were a firm favourite on the catwalks of Paris/Milan/New York/London fashion weeks, and we were fully onboard. Obviously, these metallic look suits will not be office friendly but they will most definitely look amazing for a special occasion in your diary. Metallic made its way into the accessories collections of many designers. Massive, oversized, shiny bags took centre stage with neon, perspex jewellery elevating your outfit to extra terrestrial heights.

Although this may seem far fetched at first glimpse, balaclavas were a major part of some collections. Neron seemed to be an ongoing theme and the ribbed knit balaclavas on show were a fresh take on fashion that is Winter ready. The thing that caught my eye the most were a new take on a classic, a blanket dress. An oversized quilted alternative to a knitted dress you would normally go for when the temps drop.  Wondering what was suitable for the office? Well there was some amazing panel print pencil skirt in some beautiful colours that are blurring the lines between office ready and street styler.

There are so many futuristic styles that have already hit the high street that you should get buying the minute you finish reading this article. Retailers were quick off the mark with the trend as they realised the demand after the success of the collections on show on the runways. The best way to tackle this trend is to add one piece at a time. You don’t want to be wearing that much tin foil you’ll look like you’ve just finished a marathon.
